About Dr. Rufner

Kevin M. Rufner, MD, MPH, was raised in Denver. His extensive training in public health and years of research in inflammatory and infectious disorders of the intestine led him to join the team at Colorado Gastroenterology in Denver, Aurora, and Golden.

After high school, Dr. Rufner headed to the West Coast to complete a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Nutrition from the University of California, San Diego. Medical school landed him on the opposite coast, where he earned his medical degree from Tufts University in Boston.

While in medical school, he held membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He also completed a master’s degree in public health and was inducted into Delta Omega Alpha, the honorary society for studies in public health.

Dr. Rufner returned home to Colorado for his internal medicine and gastroenterology fellowship, both at the University of Colorado, Denver. Today, although he treats all disorders of the digestive system and the liver, he maintains a strong interest in inflammatory bowel disease and the gut immune system.

Dr. Rufner is an active member of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the Colorado Medical Society.

Medicine is quite the family affair for the Rufners. Dr. Rufner’s wife, Lorraine, is a family-practice physician in Denver. They have two children.
